    I had a coffee percolator from a garage sale. It worked for me for many years. That was until the stem broke off. I had no luck finding a new pot like that one, so I broke down and bought a new one. It never made coffee as good tasting as that old pot.

    Coffee percolators are still made and sold. Just go to the camping section of a sporting goods store! BTW they make great coffee if you use the right amount of coffee in it. Some stores still sell bean coffee that you grind at the store, or you can buy a very inexpensive grinder and do it yourself.

    It's sad that folks don't recognize a stove-top percolator these days. It's really not that different from today's coffeemakers; the principle is the same. By the way, it's not a bad way to make coffee. Before the percolator was invented, you boiled the grounds in the water, pure and simple. If you weren't careful when drinking it you'd get a mouthful of coffee grounds.

    The percolator may have not made great coffee. But according to my uncles it did make infinity coffee . At the first of the week my grandma would make the coffee then she would keep it warm on the back of the old woodburning stove just kept adding water to the pot and a occasional spoonful of coffee. My mom's family lived on a small farm during the Great Depression.

    percolated coffee isn't bad - it only requires coarsely ground coffee beans - which are now difficult to come by. If you want baaaad coffee - you should try US Army coffee brewed in 30 gallon trash can using a submersible kerosene heater... just a little perspective ;)

      I have that exact same percolator, and we use it in the Winter. It makes the _best_ coffee, and fills the house early morning with that magical aroma. It saves money too, as it requires less beans to brew compared to drip coffee. My adult son and I live off-grid on 100% solar and wind power. My batteries are 20 years old now, and don't hold a charge as well as they used to, so we avoid using electricity until the sun is shining on the panels. We percolate coffee on our gas stove when we first get up to feed chickens, gather eggs, and let the goats out of their pen to graze. We do without a lot of modern conveniences, some people ask what we do for entertainment. I tell them, "We're gonna party like it's 1899!"😃 For years we had no TV, but the best entertainment was occuring outside where we watch from the porch and windows. I mean, have you seen baby goats play? There is nothing I love more than watching that show! Every "episode" is different. This morning we had a new "show", dozens of tiny baby quail running around under the watchful eye of their parents. Darling little birdies!💗

    I knew the stovetop percolator right away! That's how everyone we knew made their coffee. Some did get fancy and started putting a flat circle filter in before putting in the coffee grounds, but that was considered "extra". 🤭 Then, those that had gardens & compost piles, would take their eggshells and coffee grounds from breakfast out back to throw out there.

    • @LazyIRanch
      @LazyIRanch 19 минут назад

      I still do that! My Daddy taught me to keep a compost pile. Creates best potting soil and rich garden soil. It's a haven for earthworms, which I sometimes dig up as treats for our chickens.

    I worked in a granite quarry and the "load choker" is what we called chain dogs. It was used to span a block of stone and the ears of the dogs would set in a small dimple we drilled in the ends of the stone. Barely a ¼" of steel on each side would hold several tons of stone

    2:37 This is not a variometer made by Northern Electric, rather it is a 1920's AM crystal radio which is tuned by the variometer. It is missing the shaft and "cat's whisker" that would have run trough the little metal ball, this would be used with the galena crystal to form a detector. The terminals are used to connect to Antenna, Ground, and a set of Headphones.
